A Christmas Carol (or two!)

Today our choir visited the Windmill House in Marton to perform traditional carols and Christmas songs for some of the residents.

Although the choir was a little depleted today, the children sang their hearts out and were very well received! After the performance, the children had some light refreshment and were invited to meet some of the residents and staff. Here are a selection of photos and videos of a couple of festive favourites for you to enjoy!

They are really lucky to have been the first children chosen to learn Mandarin and are being taught on Wednesday mornings by Wu in Learning Support Room 1. Today, the children were learning the Mandarin words for eyes, ears, nose, mouth, arms and legs!

Greek Pots

Year 6 have been designing and making Greek pots as part of their ancient history lessons. They also had a little bit of help from the infants!

We had to say "Goodbye" to our Year 6s today, but not before a fantastic trip  to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for their end of year treat. The children behaved impeccably and had a thoroughly good time. We wish them all the best for their new lives in high school this coming September. Good luck for the future!

Smooth Operators...

Some of our Year 5 gifted and talented mathematicians have be lucky enough to have 'taster' lessons at high school. Over the last few weeks, members of classes 5A and 5B have been furthering their maths skills with a range of interesting challenges.

Initially, they were tasked to work out the cost of various items of shopping and how much change they would receive if they were given a certain amount of money to spend.

They then had to design a fruit smoothie recipe, taking into consideration the proportions of ingredients and how this might affect the flavour of the drink. The group also looked at weights and measures and the importance of being accurate when reading the results from a scale.

They produced posters to describe the quantities of the ingredients and finally they had to carefully weigh out the amounts of products and use a measuring jug to get the correct amount of milk for their smoothies.

Here are a selection of photos showing the smoothies being made:

Year 6 Mini Enterprise 2015

Our Year 6 classes have recently been planning for Mini Enterprise.  There was a wonderful range of stalls this year, from cupcakes, to games to penalty shoot out. The children worked hard to come up with the initial ideas, plan the events, design advertising material, produce promotional video clips and run the events on the 7th and 9th July 2015.

This video shows the culmination of many weeks of hard week, preparing the events. Well done Year 6: over £300 pounds was raised over two days!
